OSFMount Editor's Review
When it comes to programs that can mount ISO images to a virtual drive, without having to burn them to a CD, Daemon Tools instantly springs to mind. With the features that this program brings, it's hard to for a newcomer to make any place. However, OSFMount comes with an unique feature.OSFMount is a program that can be used to mount disc images as virtual drives, but also supports RAM disks (a disk mounted into RAM), which is the unique feature among the competitors. This means that you can get the fastest access to disc images and the best overall performance of the mounted images. Now you might think, what is that good for?
Well, first of all, it can be used for programs that require high speed disk access, such as programs which work with a database, or games which use cache files. In general, OSFMount can be useful when a particular CD/DVD is used often and the speed of access is important. Another benefit is the security, considering that the disk contents are not stored on a physical hard disk (but rather in RAM). About the supports extensions, OSFMount can mount files such as: ISO, BIN, IMG, DD, 00N, NRG, SDI, AFF, AFM, VMDK an.d AFD, virtually or ask RAM disk.
About the UI (user interface), I can tell that it straight forward and easy. To mount an image, click on 'Mount New' button and select a disk image. After that, you can press 'OK' and the image file will be mounted. Note that multiple images can be mounted. To create a RAM disc, hit the 'Mount new' button, select 'Image file in RAM' option and select the disk image. You can also assign a drive letter and choose a drive type (HDD, CD/DVD-ROM, Floppy) or leave the drive type to Auto for auto detection. There are also options to manually set the size of the drive and the image file offset. When you're done, you can hit the 'OK' button and the image will be mounted into RAM.
Pluses: supports RAM disks; straight forward UI;
Drawbacks / flaws:
In conclusion: A very useful program if you're looking to mount disk images as virtual drives or as RAM disks.
